Originating in Tokyo, Japan, The Korg company was first named Keio Gijutsu Kenkyujo Ltd which became Keio Electronic Laboratories. The name came from their office location, near the Keio train line in Tokyo. In 1967, an engineer who was building keyboards named Fumio Mieda asked to build a prototype and ended up with a programmable organ. Using a combination of the first letters of the founders (Kato and Osanal), Kelo sold the organ using the brand commonly known today as “KORG”.
